Decades of evidence demonstrate that educational attainment is shaped not only by what happens inside schools, but also by factors outside them: housing instability, residential segregation, community violence, access to healthcare, out-of-school enrichment, social capital, and economic opportunity. The concentration in Cross-Sector Collaboration (CSC): Creating Thriving Places for Children and Families equips students to lead interdisciplinary efforts that align and transform youth- and family-serving systems across education, healthcare, housing, higher education, workforce, philanthropy, government, and faith- and community-based organizations toward improved outcomes for children and families from cradle to career.
Graduates are prepared to serve as cross-sector leaders at international, national, regional, and local levels, pursuing careers that advance educational attainment and economic mobility within backbone and intermediary organizations, nonprofit networks, government institutions, philanthropies, higher education, and preK–12 school systems.

A policy expert who served as the Secretary of Education for Massachusetts, Paul Reville is founder and director of the Education Redesign Lab at HGSE.
With a concentration in Cross-Sector Collaboration, you will join a cohort with a shared interest in exploring place-based strategies — efforts to transform neighborhoods, towns, cities, and regions — that bring together leaders and institutions across sectors around a shared vision for improving population-level outcomes for children, youth, families, and communities from cradle to career.
You will have access to the EdRedesign Lab at HGSE's vast network of partner communities, fellows, research affiliates, staff, and national partners, bringing real-world insights and inspiration into the classroom while exploring the opportunities and dilemmas that place-based practitioners grapple with on the ground.
