The disruptions of the past several years have had a tremendous impact on educators, students, and families. As a school leader, your beliefs and even your roles have likely been challenged. Yet community members still look to you to guide them forward. In order to meet these new challenges, you need a new approach to leadership.
Navigating Complexity: A Leadership Program for Principals engages you in collaborative activities designed to strengthen your leadership skills. You’ll explore topics including equity, social-emotional learning, family and community engagement, school culture, and strategy. You’ll learn new frameworks and best practices that can help you become a more effective leader. And you can also make connections with peers to support you as you move forward.
During this six-week professional development course, participants spend approximately 18 hours engaged in synchronous and asynchronous learning. Participants learn through a balance of faculty-led videos and readings, individual reflection, interactive collaboration, and small group sessions. Faculty and facilitators guide participants to apply their learning in practice, while a strong peer community provides a support network to test ideas and problem-solve. Weekly live sessions, facilitated by HGSE faculty member Katherine Merseth, provide coherence and connect overarching themes with current and future work.
