Professional Development
In addition to managing the complex daily challenges that occur in schools, leading instructional improvement is one of the most important responsibilities for school principals. Research consistently points to the critical impact highly effective principals have on student achievement. Yet, as schools experience unprecedented teacher turnover, student learning loss, and absenteeism, knowing where to focus as an instructional leader can be daunting.
Designed specifically for K-12 school leaders, Accelerating Instruction: Principals Leading Instructional Improvement provides a place for you to learn an instructional leadership framework for meeting today’s education challenges. Guided by HGSE faculty and expert practitioners, you’ll be introduced to four leadership practices that research consistently shows have the strongest impact on teacher performance. Through program-wide sessions, case study discussions, hands-on practice, and facilitated peer groups, you’ll deepen your understanding of instructional leadership and build your skillset for improving learning and teaching.

During this four-day program, you’ll work with fellow school leaders to expand your understanding of research-based strategies for improving instruction. Specifically, engaging in pedagogically focused conversations with teachers; building productive school cultures that promote psychological safety; facilitating the development of collaborative teacher-learning communities; and strategically managing personnel and resources.
By the end of the program, you will have a renewed understanding of your role as a leader of instruction, a toolkit for improving teacher practice, and a roadmap for planning your instructional leadership strategy.
