Drew Allen serves as associate provost for institutional research and analytics at Harvard University and senior lecturer on education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE). In the Provost’s Office, he leads the Office of Institutional Research and Analytics and works with leaders across the University to strengthen data-informed decision making, institutional effectiveness, accreditation, and data governance. He oversees Harvard’s institutional accreditation efforts with the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) and co-leads the University’s data governance program, helping establish the policies, structures, and stewardship practices needed to support effective use of institutional data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI).
At HGSE, Allen teaches and advises higher education leaders on the use of evidence, analytics, and organizational strategy. He serves as Faculty Chair for executive education programs focused on institutional research and data leadership and strategic enrollment management. His work focuses on institutional effectiveness, data-informed enrollment strategy, and the evolving role of data and AI in higher education.
Before joining Harvard in 2022, Allen served as associate vice president for institutional data analytics at Georgetown University. He previously held leadership positions at Princeton University, including executive director of the Data-Driven Social Science Initiative and founding executive director of IDEAS for Higher Education, an internal analytics and consulting group. Earlier in his career, he established and led the Office of Research, Evaluation and Program Support at the City University of New York (CUNY).
Allen is a frequent keynote speaker and presenter for national higher education associations, including AAC&U, AACRAO, AIR, and UPCEA. He holds a Ph.D. in Higher and Postsecondary Education from New York University, an M.A. in Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences from Columbia University, and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Arkansas
