At HGSE, alumni are an essential part of our work and our mission. You can support HGSE and our global alumni community by volunteering your time and expertise to build a worldwide community of change-makers.
The Alumni Council of the Harvard Graduate School of Education is a group of volunteer representatives of the school who provide a valuable connection between HGSE and its growing body of alumni.
Council members work to strengthen the relationship between HGSE and its alumni through engagement and outreach, including event development and support, Admissions recruitment, strengthening volunteer opportunities, and broadening alumni networks. Council members serve as both representatives of the larger alumni body and as sources of information for the Office of Alumni Engagement.
Each year, the Alumni Council selects Alumni Council Award recipients, based on nominations from the HGSE alumni community.
The mission of The Appian Way Alliance for Alumni of Color (The Alliance) is to create a vibrant, inclusive, active, and supportive community of alumni and students of color. The Alliance creates opportunities through community-wide and regional events for alumni of color to connect with one another; enhance relationships between alumni and students of color; provide academic, career, and other types of support to students; and proactively address issues of equity, inclusion, access, and diversity at HGSE and in the community. Please email The Alliance for more information.
The HGSE Admissions Alumni Ambassador Program (AAAP) features alums from our Ed.M. and Ed.L.D. programs and they represent the diverse areas of interest found at HGSE. Admissions Alumni Ambassadors have the opportunity to indicate on a yearly basis the ways in which they would like to be involved in the admissions cycle. These can include communicating with prospective students via email, attending in-person events, being a panelist in a virtual event, participating in our admitted students call campaign or being a contributor for our social media accounts and admissions blog.
HGSE alums are welcome to fill out the Admissions Alumni Ambassador application (linked above) at any point during the year. Each summer the admissions team emails the Alumni Ambassadors to encourage them to update their information and the ways that they would like to be involved.
If you have any questions about the AAAP, please email Assistant Director of Admissions, Lauren McDermott.
The Student-Alumni Mentoring Initiative strives to accomplish varying goals related to the establishment of mutually beneficial mentoring relationships among participants. The program pairs current HGSE students with alumni during the academic year and the Alumni Engagement office facilitates events and communications for SAMI participants to help make the matches a meaningful experience for both parties.
The Alumni Mentor application opens each June.
Taking place each spring, the Alumni of Color Conference aims to inspire and improve the education sector by convening alumni, students, practitioners, artists, and scholars both from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and across the nation in order to share best practices and cutting edge research that pertains to people of color in educational spaces.
Harvard Alumni Day is a university-wide, global event that welcomes all Harvard alumni to participate in a full-day of in person, hybrid, and virtual programming. Save the date for the fourth annual Harvard Alumni Day on Friday, June 6, 2025.
Harvard Alumni for Education (HAEd) is a special interest group that connects Harvard alumni involved in education. Joining HAEd allows you to connect with over 2,000 members spread out across several chapters across the globe.
Your support advances the HGSE mission of changing the world through education.
