Carrie Conaway is the faculty chair of learning and assessment and senior lecturer on education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she directs the Teaching and Learning Lab, Gutman Library, and the learning, teaching, and assessment team. She previously co-chaired the Education Policy & Analysis master’s degree program and HGSE’s foundational Evidence course for master’s students. She is also co-author with Nora Gordon of Common-Sense Evidence: The Education Leader’s Guide to Using Data and Research.
Until June 2019, she was the chief strategy and research officer for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and led the agency’s Office of Planning and Research. She also served as the president of the Association for Education Finance and Policy in 2018-19. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Oberlin College; a master’s degree in policy analysis and labor policy from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota; and a master’s degree in sociology and social policy from Harvard University.
