Doing Good Work

An alum shares what motivates him as an assistant principal in Miami

Cornelius Troy, Ed.M.’21, has firsthand experience of how education can change the trajectory of a life and a family — a bloodline, as he puts it. As a first-generation graduate, Troy is an example to his son of what you can accomplish if you set a high bar for yourself with education. Students who are determined to have the same positive influence on their own families is his driving passion behind school leadership.

As an assistant principal, Troy embraces a leadership role in education to impact the school beyond his own classroom. By coaching teachers, he hopes that no matter what room they go into, students can come to school and feel like they are learning something. Reaching multiple classrooms and influencing the student experience as whole is his primary goal.
