Inaugural Yidan Prize Laureates, Vicky Colbert, recipient of the Yidan Prize for Education Development, and founder and director of the Fundacion Escuela Nueva in Colombia; and Carol Dweck, recipient of the Yidan Prize for Education Research, and Lewis and Virginia Eaton Professor of Psychology at Stanford University, will come together to discuss their work in the education field. Nonie Lesaux, Juliana W. and William Foss Thompson Professor of Education and Society and academic dean at HGSE, will moderate this discussion. 5–6:30 p.m. February 6: Immigration, Activism, and DACA: An Evening with Jose Antonio Vargas and Joy ReidAs part of the DACA Seminar at Harvard, a multi-week series of events surrounding the topic of immigration with various guests including academics, artists, and activists, Joy Reid, political analyst and host of AM Joy at MSNBC will interview Jose Antonio Vargas, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and founder and CEO at Define American, as he speaks about the politics of immigration, the termination of DACA, and the overall effect of these policy decisions on the American people. Roberto Gonzales, professor of education at HGSE will introduce the DACA Seminar. 5:30-7pm. February 8: Teach Us All: A Community Conversation with Members of the Little Rock NineFollowing a screening of the documentary, Teach Us All, members of the Little Rock Nine Minnijean Brown Trickey, visiting writer for Heritage Studies at Arkansas State University, and Terrence Roberts, principal of Terrence Roberts Consulting, will discuss their experiences during the desegregation at Central High in Arkansas. Additional speakers include Jonathan Crossley, principal at Baseline Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas; Sonia Lowman, director of Teach Us All and director of communications at Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes; and Treopia G. Washington, director of special initiatives for the College of Education at Bowie State University.
