Ann Mantil is a lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a senior research associate at the Annenberg Institute at Brown University. She has 25 years of experience in K–12 education practice, policy, and research. As a co-principal investigator on the Educational Opportunity in Massachusetts project at Annenberg, she analyzes how students progress to and through the state's K–16 education system and into the workforce. Mantil's recent published research has focused on the equity consequences of high-stakes exit exams and the experiences of immigrant newcomers in Massachusetts high schools. Her work has provided important evidence to inform policy and practice in the Commonwealth and has been profiled in the Boston Globe, WBUR, Commonwealth Magazine, and Education Week. At HGSE, she teaches courses on the use of evidence and on educational testing.
Mantil holds an MPA from the Woodrow Wilson School of International Affairs and an Ed.D. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her professional experience includes nine years as a charter school teacher and administrator in Oakland, California and Washington, D.C., as well as strategic planning roles with local school districts and the New Jersey Department of Education.
