What You Can Do

To keep families involved once school is back in person

In the inaugural interview for the What You Can Do series, Harvard Graduate School of Education senior lecturer Karen Mapp, an expert on family and school partnerships, offers suggestions for how educators can keep families connected to the school, especially after so many valued the deeper ties they had to teachers and coursework during the pandemic, when they essentially became co-teachers. An important first step, Mapp says, is making it very clear to families that they are a valued part of the school.
