In their new book, An Everyone Culture: Becoming a Deliberately Developmental Organization, Ed School faculty members Robert Kegan, Lisa Lahey, Matthew Miller, and Deborah Helsing, and Andy Fleming of Way to Grow, Inc., seek to answer that very question. By examining the traits that make Deliberately Developmental Organizations (DDOs) so successful, the authors may have found the key: If the people that comprise the organization are given the opportunity to grow, then the success of the organization will follow.
"We could see they were doing something very, very different — radically different — than other organizations that we've had the privilege to be in," says Lahey, lecturer at the Ed School. "And the thing that they were doing was supporting everyone's development... . When you support people's development, it allows the organization to better deliver on its mission."
