News Dean McCartney Speaks at Annual U.S. Chamber of Commerce Meeting Posted October 5, 2006 By News editor HGSE Dean Kathleen McCartney spoke today at the annual U.S. Chamber of Commerce education and workforce summit in Dallas."Collaborations between business and education can and should yield significant benefits for each partner, and for the communities they serve," she said. "For many years, business and education have found ways to work together; HGSE is committed to cultivating these collaborations and to leveraging our respective resources to have a positive impact on teaching and learning."The U.S. Chamber of Commerce meeting, being held from Oct. 4 through Oct. 6, joins business leaders, chamber members, and education leaders from around the country to discuss vital education and business issues. This year's meeting focused on the latest school reform data and progress. Participants also debated strategies to keep American schools competitive in a competitive global environment.McCartney addressed the audience as part of the panel entitled "How Businesses Leaders Can Become Effective School Leaders."Within the exploration of school reform, participants considered topics including high quality teachers, national education reform, public/private partnerships, and implementation strategies.
