The Judith Block McLaughlin Presidents‐in‐Residence Program was launched at the Harvard Graduate School of Education as a way to anchor academic discussions in higher education with real‐world experience. Founded by McLaughlin, a longtime senior lecturer at the school, the program brings distinguished former college or university presidents to HGSE to attend classes alongside students, meet with students in one‐on‐one office hours, and advise students on important academic and career decisions. Presidents-in-Residence join our master’s students in the residential higher education concentration and in the online higher education pathway for discussions about and reflections on leadership in higher education and the contemporary challenges in the field. In 2023, the program was renamed for McLaughlin upon her retirement.
“I welcome the opportunity to serve as a President-in-Residence at the HGSE..., reflecting on my experiences, and helping prepare the next generation of academic administrators.”
“Part of our higher education leadership responsibilities include supporting and assisting the upcoming higher education leaders. This position affords me the opportunity to do just this."
Harris became the 19th president of Union College in 2018, ushering in a five-year strategic plan to blend liberal arts and engineering, transcend disciplinary boundaries, and embrace diverse experiences and perspectives for the school’s students in the classroom and beyond. He also launched the Making U Possible initiative to raise funds to ensure that all students can participate in the co-curricular and extracurricular activities that comprise a full Union experience.
Lieberman served as the 18th president of the University of La Verne from 2011 to 2023, the first woman to hold the position in La Verne’s 134-year history.
