News Snow Named Outstanding Educator by Urban College of Boston Posted March 29, 2010 By News editor Professor Catherine Snow has been named Outstanding Educator by the Urban College of Boston, an independent, coeducational two-year institution that provides post-secondary education and professional mobility to the urban community."It is a great honor, and a pleasure to have the opportunity to participate in highlighting the important role played by the Urban College," said Snow, who will receive the award at the fourth annual Early Childhood Educators Conference and Luncheon in Boston on April 8.Snow is an expert on language and literacy development in children, bilingual education, testing policy, and language policy issues in the United States and developing nations. She has worked on national panels on reading difficulties in children and language and literacy skills among low-income children. Currently, she is focusing her efforts on improving middle-school literacy outcomes in partnership with other Boston-area researchers and the Boston Public Schools.
