Facebook Education

Schools across the country have embraced the philosophies behind personalized learning, customizing their curriculums to suit the needs and interests of their students, with teachers taking the lead. But schools aren't alone in seeing the benefits of customized learning. Education-minded companies like Facebook are jumping in as well. In fact, Facebook has launched a partnership with Summit Public Schools, a charter network in California and Washington, to work to improve the technology that powers personalized learning with the hope of one day making it available to all learners.

"We believe that personalized learning is an approach that helps students achieve their full potential," says Adam Seldow, Ed.M.'03, Ed.M.'08, Ed.D.'10, head of education partnerships at Facebook. "Done right, this personalized learning empowers teachers with the tools to create strong connection with their students."

Visiting HGSE to take part in the Askwith Forum, "Engineering Personalized Learning: The Story of Summit Schools and Facebook," Seldow speaks to the Harvard EdCast about the current landscape of personalized learning and Facebook's partnership with Summit Public Schools.
