EdCast Write the World Posted April 24, 2015 By Matt Weber With a passion for education, David Weinstein saw the gap between the inadequate writing skills of high school students and the 21st-century demands of colleges, workplaces, and engaged citizenship. During a two-year fellowship at Harvard’s Advanced Leadership Initiative, he decided to do something about it. With help from faculty, students, and alums of HGSE, he created Write the World – a creative online educational community – to enhance the writing and critical thinking skills of high school students. Driven by the belief that strong writing skills give voices to young people, Weinstein is building a vibrant global community where young voices can be heard on a diverse range of subjects. Write the World supports both educators and students to establish regular writing routines, and improve writing and thinking skills. In this edition of the Harvard EdCast, Weinstein shares his vision for helping students develop the writing strategies and communication tools essential for success in school, career, and life.Learn more: Read the Ed. magazine article, "Write the Self and the World," by Francesca Grossman, Ed.L.D.'13.About the Harvard EdCast The Harvard EdCast is a weekly series of podcasts, available on the Harvard University iTunes U page, that features a 15-20 minute conversation with thought leaders in the field of education from across the country and around the world.
