Uche Amaechi is interested in how individuals interact to form groups, teams and organizations; and how those organizations, in turn, impact the same individuals, groups and teams. During his doctoral work, Amaechi investigated how teachers and administrators could use social media to provide academic and social support to groups of students facing risks. For his dissertation he explored how different levels of school systems — district administration, school administration, teachers, and students — interacted around students' use of their personal mobile phones during school hours for school related activities. Amaechi also has extensive experience in the areas of leadership, entrepreneurship, organizational learning, social enterprise and informal learning; and has consulted and worked extensively with graduate students in these areas.
Beyond Harvard, Amaechi works in the Cambridge Public Schools on school leadership, collaboration, and building systems that support race and equity. He also serves on the board of Community Charter School of Cambridge and a Farrington Nature Linc — both of which target low-income and minority populations — and previously served for eight years in roles directing out-of-school programming in Cambridge.
Amaechi has an Ed.D. and Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate school of Education; an MBA from the University of Phoenix online; and a B.A. from Harvard College.
