Peter Q. Blair is on the faculty at the Harvard Graduate School of Education where he co-directs the Project on Workforce. He serves as a faculty research fellow of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and the principal investigator of the BE-Lab — a research group with partners from Harvard University, Clemson University, and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His group’s research focuses on the link between the future of work and the future of education, labor market discrimination, occupational licensing, and residential segregation.
Blair received his Ph.D. in applied economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, his M.Sc. in theoretical physics from Harvard University, and his B.Sc. in physics and mathematics from Duke University. He is the youngest of his parents’ seven sons, and got his start understanding markets by selling fruit and vegetables in the Bahamas in the Nassau Straw Market with his brothers.
Dr. Blair will supervise the implementation of an education RCT in India. The RCT is designed to test the impact of an all-womens STEM program (Women Engineers program) targeted toward high-achieving women engineering students in India. This will involve designing and implementing various stages of data collection (baseline, midline, endline) across two cohorts (2024-2026 and 2025-2027) of the Women Engineers program. Dr. Blair will also supervise work on developing and piloting survey and assessment tools to measure whether the Women Engineers (WE) program improves the technical (e.g., coding) and non-technical skills (e.g., confidence, problem-solving, etc.) of the participants in the program. Dr Blair will also supervise preliminary data analysis, the development of a pre-analysis plan, and initial drafts of papers, presentations, and reports, for relevant stakeholders (research and non-research audience) Dr. Blair will also supervise the work of a graduate RA, Ashutosh Bhuradia, who will help manage the implementation of the data collection, and relationship with stakeholders, help design and piloting of survey instruments, and help conduct preliminary data analysis.
Peter Blair, an economist whose research focuses on the link between the future of work and the future of education, will assume the role on July 1
