Program Overview

Dr. Tessa Forshaw, cognitive scientist and co-author of Innovation-ish: How Anyone Can Create Breakthrough Solutions to Real Problems in the Real World, is launching a professional learning community and webinar series grounded in the concepts of her new book. Webinars will be co-facilitated along with Innovation-ish co-author and design educator Rich Braden.

Innovation-ish shows how individuals across education systems, workplaces, and learning environments can develop the capacity to innovate—not through rigid processes, but through cultivating mindsets, taking small strategic actions, and building metacognitive awareness.

The series will explore how practical, everyday innovation can support learning, performance, leadership development, and problem-solving across a wide range of roles and settings. Participants will engage in real examples drawn from schools, universities, workforce development programs, and organizational learning initiatives.

“Innovation is more than just a skill; it is essential for leadership, citizenship, and navigating the future. At a time when educational systems are navigating deep complexity, Innovation-ish offers a clear, grounded, and inspiring approach.”

 - Nonie K. Lesaux, Dean, Harvard Graduate School of Educaiton

Participants will

  • Attend three, one-hour webinars led by Dr. Tessa Forshaw and Rich Braden. Sessions will be interactive, with brief presentations, discussion prompts, and breakout group dialogue.

  • Gain access to an online community platform where participants can share experiences, pose questions, and learn from peers across education and workplace learning contexts.

  • Apply Innovation-ish frameworks to a real challenge in their setting, such as improving a learning program, redesigning a workflow, supporting teacher growth, enhancing organizational performance, or addressing a student or workforce development need.

This community is designed for leaders and practitioners working in:

  • K–12 and higher education
  • Workforce development and training programs
  • Organizational learning, L&D, and talent development
  • Learning design, coaching, and performance improvement
  • Nonprofit, public sector, and community education initiatives

It is especially relevant for educators and professionals interested in integrating innovation into everyday practice, designing for better learning and performance outcomes, or strengthening their personal creative problem-solving skills.

To enroll, please complete the enrollment form, which will take approximately 5–10 minutes. In addition to basic demographic and professional questions, you will be asked to respond to the following prompts:

  • Why are you interested in joining a community focused on everyday innovation and learning? (limit 100 words)
  • Please submit 2–3 questions or challenges you face related to innovation, creative problem solving, or creative thinking in your setting. (required)
  • Please share an example of an everyday innovation that you have done in your own life or work, or one that you want to undertake. (required)

This opportunity is free. However, we recommend purchasing Innovation-ish to read as part of the book community and discussions. It is available for purchase via Wiley Press as well as online and in-person bookstores.
