Paul Reville Named Chair of State Board of Education

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has named Harvard Graduate School of Education lecturer Paul Reville as chairman of the state Board of Education. Reville, who will continue in his role at the Ed School, will begin his chairmanship immediately.

“I am honored by the Governor’s confidence,†said Reville, director of the Ed School’s Education Policy and Management Program. “I look forward to moving ahead, working collaboratively with Beacon Hill and the field, to address troubling, persistent student achievement gaps by developing an education reform agenda that gives primary attention to improving learning for all students.â€

In addition to his work at HGSE, Reville also serves as the president of the Rennie Center for Education Research & Policy. He is the former executive director of the Pew Forum on Standards-Based Reform, a Harvard-based, national education policy “think tank†which convened the U.S.’s leading researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to set the national "standards" agenda.

In announcing his selection, Governor Patrick commented the Reville will give the Commonwealth, “a leader with a broad perspective on local, national and international education issues and solutions.
