Tomaszewski's Paintings on Display at Gutman Library

An exhibit of paintings by Polish artist Lubomir Tomaszewski will open at HGSE's Gutman Library on January 28. The collection, War and Peace, will be available for public viewing from 9 am to 5 pm, January 29 through February 18.

Predominantly known as a sculptor, Tomaszewski created the War and Peace paintings in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks and the Iraq war. Instead of a brush, Tomaszewski used fire from a blowtorch to burn and smoke the canvas creating images with an array of color accents.

Founder of the emotionalist group and movement, Tomaszewski attended the Academy of Fine Arts and worked as senior designer at the Institute of Industrial Design in Warsaw, Poland before coming to the United States in the 1960s. His internationally-acclaimed work has been featured at the New England Center for Contemporary Art, The National Museum at Poland, and the Halle Museum in Germany. He resides in Easton, Massachusetts.
