News Meet Anthony Alagbile "The Mind, Brain, and Education Program has far surpassed my expectations. It offers real value; it was uniquely suited to my interest in understanding how the brain ‘thinks’ and ‘learns.’” Anthony Alagbile, Ed.M., Mind, Brain, and Education Posted July 31, 2014 By News editor “I come from a family of educators,” begins Anthony Alagbile, who is soft-spoken, yet purposeful; modest, yet intense in the clarity of his convictions. “But more importantly, I come from a country, a continent, where revolution is imminent. I believe this revolution will be fueled by education … by the emergence of a new generation with the knowledge and confidence they need to learn, live, and work freely, and fully realize their potential. And HGSE’s preparing me to play a central role in this revolution — as a development and change consultant with the cutting-edge skills and tools to help transform education, organizations, and government.”It’s a big, bold dream. But boldness of ideas, action, aspirations, and achievement shines through every aspect of Anthony’s journey to HGSE. As part of a large, middle-class family in Lagos, Nigeria, he remembers being constantly encouraged to think big. “We were all passionate about our country’s need for transformational change. We grew up determined to pursue excellence in whatever fields we chose so we might, one day, serve as catalysts for that change.” After graduating with a degree in organizational psychology, Anthony quickly found success as a consultant at one of the world’s best known business consulting firms. “Then I found an opportunity to pursue a master’s in organizational effectiveness, development, and change at the University of Delaware. And, there, I stumbled upon the field of neuroscience and its relevance to education. I remember thinking, ‘Wow, if I can better understand the brain and the nervous system, I can better understand different learning styles … and multiple intelligences. Combine that with my organizational experience, and maybe I can help create massive, systemic change in how we educate kids back home.’“I am proud to be an HGSE graduate,” concludes Anthony. “This program has been an invaluable, once-in-a-lifetime experience. I know I will never again encounter a more diverse, knowledgeable, and accessible community of scholars.” News The latest research, perspectives, and highlights from the Harvard Graduate School of Education Explore All Articles Related Articles News Fighting for Change: Estefania Rodriguez, L&T'16 News Part of the Conversation: Rachel Hanebutt, MBE'16 Usable Knowledge Start by Talking What education leaders should know about how to build strong reading skills (and strong schools).
