Amin Marei is a thought leader in the field of education technology, with a focus on the intersection of emerging technologies, human development, and learning. His current research explores the affordances and limitations of scaling artificial intelligence for learning globally, with a focus on how AI can support educators, enhance learning design, and contribute to more responsive and contextually grounded learning environments. He has been actively involved in the development of learning tools for leading AI labs. He also serves as a Lead Researcher at EdTech Hub, where he contributes to global studies on digital learning and system transformation in low- and middle-income countries.In addition to his research, Marei is the chief executive officer of EdLabs, an education consulting and investment firm that partners with governments, international organizations, and education providers to advance the efficacy of learning systems. He is also a senior advisor to UNICEF on education and currently leads strategic projects with UNICEF and UNESCO, focused on scaling digital learning and driving innovation in education systems. Previously, Marei served as senior director of Impact and Efficacy at Sesame Workshop, where he led global research to assess the reach and effectiveness of educational media and supported the organization’s strategy for technology-enabled learning. He also served as associate director of Professional Education at HGSE, where he led programs that reached over 20,000 educators annually and founded the Middle East Professional Learning Initiative (MEPLI), one of Harvard’s largest international education programs. Marei also serves as an advisor to several education technology startups, supporting their efforts to design and scale impactful learning solutions.He holds a Master’s in Education from HGSE and a Ph.D. in Education, Culture, and Society from the University of Pennsylvania.
