News Dede Receives AECT Distinguished Development Award Posted November 18, 2011 By Jill Anderson Professor Chris Dede recently received the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) Distinguished Development Award.“The Association for Educational Communications and Technology centers on the design of learning experiences. It is an honor to be recognized for design-based research that has shaped policymaking, in a time when emerging technologies can play a substantial role in improving student achievement,” Dede said. “I hope our society will take full advantage of the opportunities these new media offer.”Dede’s research focuses on the expanded human capabilities for knowledge creation, sharing, and mastery that emerging technologies enable. His teaching models the use of information technology to distribute and orchestrate learning across space, time, and multiple interactive media. His research spans emerging technologies for learning, infusing technology into large-scale educational improvement initiatives, policy formulation and analysis, and leadership in educational innovation.The AECT is a professional association of educators and others whose activities are directed toward improving instruction through technology. Created in 2005, the AECT Distinguished Development Award recognizes an educator whose work reflects innovative practice, creative development, demonstrated effectiveness, and sustained and superior quality. Recipients are nominated and selected by an editorial board.
