Professional Partnership Schools (PPS)

We value professional practice and knowledge. Separating theory and practice serves no teacher or student well. Thus our relationships with local urban schools and mentor teachers are essential to the success of the Teacher Education program. The program has developed a network of urban Professional Practice Sites that provide a steady source of data and research opportunities on school reform, teaching, teacher development, and student learning, among other things. Doctoral candidates, teachers, professors, administrators, policy actors and aspiring teachers work together at Harvard PPS's in vibrant learning communities. Outstanding mentor teachers also participate in courses at Harvard offering their wise voices of practice and experience to the aspiring teachers.

PPS's afford an opportunity for Harvard to contribute to and engage with the community. This commitment to enter directly into carefully identified schools offers opportunities for research in teaching and learning, human development, and school organization to come together to prepare teacher leaders.
