Welcome to the International Group at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

PPE’s International Education Group (IEG) supports the development and reform of education systems by establishing long-term collaborative agreements with governments and collegial relationships with education professionals in developing countries. We are strongly committed to improving quality, effectiveness, efficiency, and equity in education systems in developing countries by expanding and strengthening local capacity for educational research, policy analysis, planning, and management.

The IEG has extensive experience and recognized expertise in seven substantive areas —policy analysis, survey research, policy dialogue, planning and implementation, education information systems, organizational development, alternative forms of governance (decentralization), and professional development and capacity building.

Over the past 30 years, we have worked in more than 40 countries in all regions of the world—including Africa, the Middle East, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America. More recently, project work has begun in Eastern Europe (Latvia and the Republic of Georgia). PPE’s current international project portfolio includes eight projects in 10 countries.

In addition to our work overseas, we offers annual Cambridge-based and overseas seminars that address current needs of international educators and provide services to international donor and lending agencies on a contract basis. Over the past two years, senior government and university educators from more than 50 countries and professional staff from many international donor and lending agencies have participated in one or more of PPE’s International Seminars. In addition, IEG staff has provided contract services to the World Bank’s Training Institute and several divisions of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
