For more than 30 years, the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education (HIHE)
has helped transform higher education leaders and their institutions
by providing high-quality professional development experiences to college
and university administrators.
Our summer institutes are recognized as
one of the nations premier forums for the development of higher
education leaders. In fact, one out of six U.S. college and university
presidents has participated in an HIHE-sponsored institute.
Key Themes Include:
- Understanding
the distinctive set of managing-from-the-middle challenges faced by
mid-level college and university administrators.
- Providing
tools and insights to lead strategic change in higher education.
- Examining
critical leadership challenges facing higher education.
- Developing
and implementing effective leadership transition strategies and institutional
entry plans for newly appointed college or university presidents.
- Identifying
ways for the board chair/chief executive team to strengthen their leadership
alliance to improve institutional governance and board productivity
Our
institutes take advantage of the rich and diverse experiences
of participants - creating intensive, highly interactive, total immersion
learning environments. Each HIHE program strives to create a dynamic learning
community where outside pressures
and claims on participant time are replaced by serious and uninterrupted
focus on program goals and learning objectives.
By
design, HIHE offerings attract a broad cross-section of individuals and
institutions from the higher education community. Typical program enrollment
is 85-95 participants for any given institute. It is not unusual for strong
professional networks to be forged during a program, providing an important
longer-term benefit to participants and their institutions. |
