Advanced Leadership Institute for Senior Academic Librarians is an intensive and highly-interactive program that will enhance your strategic leadership skills and help you position your library for future success.
The institute is designed for alumni of the Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians and other senior-level library leaders committed to taking their libraries to the next level.
Key topics include leading strategic change, forging effective partnerships and strategic alliances, managing expectations from presidents and provosts, and developing a compelling vision of the 21st century library. Participants will develop action plans and apply program concepts to their own personal leadership challenges.
Interactive Program Format
Institute faculty use various teaching techniques: presentations,
discussion, exercises, and case studies. Harvards case
studies make you an active participant in the teaching-learning process.
Through
lively discussion, you will be challenged to define key issues
and identify and offer solutions.

Previously Bickford-Jorgens served as the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Western Michigan University. During her tenure, she played a key role in a number of institutional change initiatives, including the development of new doctoral programs and increasing federally funded research.

Gunsalus is interested in the ethical dimensions of leadership and effective negotiation strategies.

Zolner oversees all Harvard Institute for Higher Education offerings and serves as the educational chair for several institutes throughout the year. His research interests are in curriculum change

Application
Process
Participants are selected based upon the match between their stated
objective and the goals of the institute. To maximize the learning
experience, the institute aims to bring together as diverse a group
as possible.
Completed applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants will be notified within three weeks from the receipt of a completed application.
Program Fee
The comprehensive program fee covers tuition, all instructional materials,
and refreshments.
Cancellation
Policy
The Harvard Graduate School of Education reserves the right to cancel
the program at its discretion. In the unlikely case of program cancellation,
the school is not responsible for non-refundable travel arrangements
or other planning costs incurred.
