Parking
Please be advised that on-street parking is very difficult to find in and around Harvard Square, and in many areas parking is prohibited without a resident parking permit. Parking in area lots or garages is quite expensive, particularly for multiple-day stays. Consequently, program participants attending residential institutes are discouraged from bringing automobiles to campus.

For those still interested, public parking information for three facilities within walking distance of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and one less expensive parking facility at the Alewife Subway Station (MBTA)—three subway stops from Harvard Square—is provided below. If you will be driving to Harvard, be sure to leave plenty of time during the program check-in/registration process to park, make your way to program check-in location, and get yourself situated.

The Church Street Parking Lot

The Church Street Lot is the parking area closest to the Graduate School of Education. From John F. Kennedy Street, go straight through the traffic lights at Memorial Drive, Eliot Street, and Mount Auburn Street. The next traffic light will put you in the center of Harvard Square, facing a newsstand called “Crimson Corner.” Take a sharp left at “Crimson Corner,” then bear right immediately onto Brattle Street. Take the first right onto Church Street, and the parking lot is halfway up the street on your left.

University Place Garage

This parking garage is located three blocks from the Graduate School of Education. From John F. Kennedy Street, go straight through the light at the Memorial Drive intersection, then turn left at the first light onto Eliot Street. Go straight through the next light onto Bennett Street. Bennett Street dead ends on University Road. Turn left on University Road, and the parking garage is immediately to your right.

Charles Hotel Parking

This parking garage is located across the street from the University Place Garage and beneath the Charles Hotel. Follow the previous instructions to University Place Garage. When on Bennett Street, look for the Charles Hotel parking garage on your left.

Alewife Subway Station Parking
Parking is available at the Alewife Subway Station at the intersection of Route 2 and Route 16, midway between Massachusetts Avenue and Fresh Pond Circle. The Alewife “T” Station is located on the Red Line; any train leaving Alewife will stop at the Harvard “T” Station (the third stop and a 5-10 minute ride).
