NEED-BASED GRANT AWARDS

HGSE Grant Funds
HGSE grant funds are awarded primarily on the basis of demonstrated financial need. Doctoral students are eligible for HGSE need-based grant assistance for years one through three of doctoral study; grant amounts range up to a maximum of the cost of full tuition plus health fees, rounded down to the closest 50 ($33,150 in 2006-2007).

A limited amount of grant assistance is available for Ed.M and C.A.S. students. Grants generally range up to a maximum of $7,000 and are awarded on the basis of financial need.

Harvard University Restricted Scholarships
Students at Harvard University are eligible to apply for restricted scholarships administered by the Committee on General Scholarships. Most of these are based on need and also have award preferences related to field of study, ethnic background, region of the country, or high school or college attended. These scholarships are listed on the HGSE Restricted Scholarship Application (deadline to submit is February 3, 2006) attached to the back of the catalogue. If students believe they qualify for a restricted scholarship, they should carefully complete the form by the stated deadline, indicating their eligibility. Students should attach documentation of the eligibility criteria; for example, high school diploma or proof of lineage. Awards from these funds are determined through a University-wide competition with students from other Harvard faculties. The scholarships are small, generally less than $5,000. For more information on Restricted Scholarships, please see the web site for the Committee on General Scholarships at http://www.scholarship.harvard.edu.

Advanced Doctoral Student Grants This one-time-only grant is available to doctoral students who meet specific academic milestones and demonstrate financial need. These students may be considered for grant aid for either year four or year five of doctoral study. (Students should remain aware in years one through three of the timetable which may make them eligible for a grant.) Please contact the Office of Academic Services or the Financial Aid Office for more information. ADG flyer (57.8 KB)
