Field Experience Program

Welcome to the Field Experience Program (FEP) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

The Field Experience Program (FEP) is an internship for credit program open to all students at HGSE. This custom-designed course provides the opportunity to apply theory to practice, do research, develop new skills, and explore different kinds of work.

The partnership between the FEP office and Career Services Office (CSO) helps to connect students and internship sites. Students may identify their own internships or use the Hired database and other FEP resources to locate an internship site. Internship sites range from schools, colleges, public agencies, museums, private corporations, non-profit organizations and other professional settings related to their academic studies.

The on-site supervision provided by the Field Supervisor is one of the most important features of this unique program. HGSE students find FEP internships so valuable because of the leadership of their Field Supervisors, including their active oversight of internship assignments and service as mentors.

Fall Orientation Dates:
Tuesday, 9/9 (9-10:00 in Eliot-Lyman): FEP Orientation Session
Wednesday, 9/10 (1-3pm in GCC): Internship Expo
Tuesday, 9/9 – Friday, 9/19: FEP Drop-in hours at the CSO (see orientation packet or call 617.495.3427 for times)

FEP Enrollment Deadlines:
Thursday, 9/11 – Thursday, 9/18: TF Interviews (students visit CSO or call 617.495.3427 to schedule)
Wednesday, 9/17: Last day for students to schedule TF interview
Friday, 9/12: Students enroll in FEP (S-997) on study card
Friday, 9/19: Students submit FEP Internship Contract by noon (via Hired)

Fall Mentoring Seminar Dates (required for Field Supervisor and Student):
Monday, October 6 from 6:00pm–8:00pm OR Friday, October 17 from 8:00am–10:00am
