School Leadership

SLP is designed to educate a new cadre of instructional leaders -- teacher leaders, school developers, and school principals -- who will have the capacity, skills, and knowledge to create and sustain environments in K-12 schools and other educational settings that foster the learning and well-being of all children. Students in this program hail from such diverse settings as public schools, charter schools, nonprofit organizations, and independent schools. During the course of this one-year master's program, they will define, articulate, and implement organizational goals to guide schools, groups of teachers, or nonprofit agencies in the support of high standards and levels of academic and social accomplishment for all children. Candidates will develop expertise in curriculum, instruction, assessment, peer collaboration, organizational leadership, and learning, together with the tools and techniques of effective management.

The School Leadership Program (SLP) includes the following three strands of specialization:School Leadership Graduation

  • Principal Licensure -- Those who are interested in obtaining Massachusetts licensure as a school principal
  • Teacher Leadership -- Those who wish to lead in school-change efforts from positions within classrooms
  • School Development -- Those who seek to reform schools from less traditional positions and vantage points

The program will include traditional course work, field placements, project-based learning activities, case discussions, on-site school consultations, cohort activities, and consultation on job placement. The School Leadership Program is a one-year full time masters program.
