Live Webcast: Technology and Education

On Friday, November 4, the Harvard Graduate School of Education will be hosting a series of panel discussions on the role of Technology, Innovation, and Education. The conversation, part of the Technology, Innovation, and Education master's program reunion, will begin at 10:15 a.m. in Askwith Lecture Hall. The event is free and open to the public; for those unable to attend, the panel discussions will be Webcast live. (Please note: This link will only become active on the morning of the event.)

The first panel discussion will consider the following question: How is technology directly supporting teachers' practice and professional development? Panelists will include Chris Dede, Wirth Professor of Learning Technologies at the Ed School; Stone Wiske, HGSE lecturer on education and coprincipal investigator for WIDE World; Alan Epstein Ed.M.'98, director of technology for the Watertown, Massachusetts public schools; and Allyson Knox Ed.M.'03, academic program manager for Microsoft. This hour-long discussion will begin at 10:15 a.m.

The second panel will explore whether new technologies facilitate learning in fundamentally new ways. Panelists will include David Perkins, HGSE professor of education; David Dockterman, HGSE lecturer on education and chief academic officer of Tom Snyder Productions; Sarah Grafman Ed.M.'04, educational designer for Muzzy Lane Software; and Patti Sullivan-Hall, Ed.M. '02, field director for Soliloquy Learning. This panel will begin at 11:30 a.m.

At 11:15 a.m., between the two panel discussions, Dean Kathleen McCartney will provide an HGSE state-of-the-school update. This talk will be included in the Webcast.
