Harvard Graduate School of Education Faculty Available to Discuss MCAS
Results from the first administration of MCAS, the Massachusetts Comprehensive
Assessment System, will be released to the public in early December. Key
faculty are available for interview or comment on MCAS in the context
of Massachusetts education reform policy, reform efforts by other states,
findings from education research, and the impact on teachers of testing
programs such as MCAS.
On Mass reform policy:
Paul Reville is a longtime advocate and policy-maker in Massachusetts
education reform. After serving a five-year term on the Massachusetts
State Board of Education, Reville was appointed chair of the Massachusetts
Education Reform Review Commission in 1996.
On other states:
Robert Schwartz tracks state-based standard-setting efforts across the
nation as president of Achieve, one of the nation's most influential
standards-based organizations.
On how testing policy affects practice:
Richard Elmore is a policy analyst whose research has focused on how
policy choices affect different aspects of schools, including teacher
accountability, student performance, and curriculum choices.
On teaching to testing:
Vito Perrone is director of the Teacher Education Program at the Harvard
Graduate School of Education. Perrone has written extensively on educational
equity, curriculum, and testing and evaluation.
