Ho Promoted to Professor

Andrew HoAssociate Professor Andrew Ho has been promoted to full professor of education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Ho is a psychometrician interested in educational accountability metrics -- an intersection between educational statistics and educational policies. Ho formally joined the HGSE faculty in 2010.

“Andrew is remarkably gifted. He is not only a technically skilled scholar, he possesses an extraordinary ability to communicate complex statistical information in an accessible and compelling way, which has made him a leading voice in the field of education policy,” said Dean James Ryan. “From his exemplary service to the school and the university as chair of the HarvardX Research Committee, to his clear dedication to teaching and advising, Andrew has rightfully come to be seen as an anchor of this faculty and this community. I am delighted that Andrew will be joining the senior faculty, and all of us at HGSE look forward to Andrew’s contributions in the years ahead.”

Since coming to HGSE, Ho has demonstrated his value to this community as both a teacher and mentor, and has taken on a portfolio of leadership positions with policy and research groups that is unprecedented for a scholar of his age. He currently serves as a member of the New York and Texas State Technical Advisory Committees. He was named to the National Assessment Governing Board by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. In 2012, he was asked by Harvard Provost Alan Garber to Chair the HarvardX Research Committee.

“I am so grateful and excited to continue serving our students, this school, and, through them, this country,” Ho said. “Although I see no end to the uncritical use of educational test scores, I know that HGSE will continue to be known as a place for reasoned discussion and debate that advances assessment policies and practice.”

Prior to joining HGSE, Ho spent a year as a visiting scholar at Stanford, funded by the prestigious National Academy of Education and Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship.

This fall Ho will continue to teach two core courses in the quantitative methods sequence: a data analysis course and a seminar in methods of educational measurement. Additionally, he will continue researching educational accountability metrics, achievement gaps, and the evaluation of open online learning environments.

Ho earned his Ph.D. in educational psychology and M.S. in statistics from Stanford University.
