Harvard College Women's Center Honors McCartney

Dean Kathleen McCartney has been named the 2013 recipient of the Harvard College Women’s Professional Achievement Award, which honors a woman who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and distinguished herself in her profession, in public service, or in the arts. She will be presented the award at a ceremony on May 14.

“I am honored to receive the Women’s Professional Achievement Award and humbled to be in the company of extraordinary women like Anne Garrels, Diane Paulus, Drew Gilpin Faust, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and Margaret Marshall,” McCartney said. “I am grateful to Dean Evelynn Hammonds and the faculty, staff, and students affiliated with the Harvard College Women’s Center for their efforts in promoting awareness of women’s and gender issues on campus and beyond. Their mission to promote equity through dialogue and community-building is critical to a lively campus discourse on women, leadership, and diversity.”

The Harvard College Women’s Professional Achievement Award is given annually to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in their professional field.  The award recognizes a leader who has used their position to have a meaningful impact on women and to benefit their community.  This year marks the sixteenth anniversary of the Women’s Leadership Awards.

The organization cited McCartney as this year’s recipient in honor of her many contributions to advancing leadership opportunities for women, ongoing commitment to promoting diversity, and outstanding accomplishments in the field of child development and early education.
