Reimers Named to Powermeter List

Professor Fernando Reimers was recently named to the seventh annual Powermeter list compiled by El Planeta, Massachusetts’ largest-circulating Spanish-language publication. Reimers and 100 other recipients attended a reception in their honor last week at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

“The annual celebration organized by the newspaper El Planeta to recognize leaders of the Hispanic community in Massachusetts is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends and to make new acquaintances with colleagues across the Commonwealth working in a wide range of fields in ways that matter to our community,” Reimers said, noting that the Hispanic community represents 10 percent of the state’s population and a greater percentage of its children and youth. “I am deeply honored to be included among those El Planeta considers leaders of this community and look forward to continuing to contribute to advancing the educational opportunities of Hispanic children and youth in the state. I appreciate and value this effort of El Planeta to build connecting tissue among various stakeholders of the community.”

The Powermeter list is testimony to the influence that these 100 individuals have in the Hispanic community and the community at large. In order to select the 100 individuals that comprise the list, El Planeta holds a nomination process open to the public. With an average of 400 nominees collected each year, a panel of judges from the community and the paper’s editorial staff selected those who, based on their merits throughout 2011, deserve to be called “one of the 100.” The list is available for online viewing featuring each honorees profile and picture at http://tuboston.com/Powermeter.
