Harvard EdCast: Chicago Strike
By Matt WeberOn September 10, the Chicago Teachers Union began its first strike in 25 years. Among the teachers goals are better pay, better benefits, and protections for teachers who lose their jobs due to school closures. They also are calling for a decrease in high-stakes testing; an increase in music, art, and gym programs; smaller class sizes; and paid preparation time.
As the strike continues, Adam Parrott-Sheffer, Ed.M.’09, a Chicago principal, speaks candidly to the EdCast from the front lines.
