Dr. Gardner’s positive, though apparently edited, appraisal of KIPP’s total compliance uniform pedagogy leaves me mystified as to how important “multiple intelligences” can be to Dr. Gardner, given the fact that KIPP honors one way of learning–the KIPP way. Perhaps multiple intelligences are important only in the leafy suburbs, rather than in schools that serve poor children, where there can be “no excuses” for learning any way other than the iron-fisted one.

I would have thought, too, that Dr. Gardner, as a psychologist, may have had something to say about the psychological KIPP-notizing regimen that these children are subjected to, based on alternating jolts of learned helplessness and learned optimism, per Dr. Seligman’s applied methods.
