Faculty Services Document Delivery Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Faculty and Officers Document
Delivery Service?
This service delivers to HGSE faculty and officers books and photocopies
of articles that are available at Harvard, but not at Gutman.
Am I eligible to use the service?
Only HGSE faculty and officers are eligible for the service.
What Harvard books are available
through the service?
Circulating books (be sure to check the availability status in the HOLLIS
Catalog) are available from Baker, Countway, Design, Divinity, the
Kennedy School, Law, and Widener.
How are books checked out?
Books will be checked out to the faculty/officer ID and are subject to
the loan periods and fines of the lending library.
NOTE: Books loaned from Countway will be obtained as an
interlibrary loan and checked out to Gutman Library rather
than to an individual. Thus, Countway books must be returned to the Gutman
Circulation Desk.
What photocopies are available
through the service?
Photocopies are available from all Harvard libraries.
Which materials are excluded
from the service?
Books that are on reserve, that are non-circulating, that are owned by
a non-participating library, or that are checked out, are excluded.
How do I submit a request?
Please consult the HOLLIS
Catalog first to make sure that Harvard owns the book or particular
issue of the journal you need, and that it is not available at Gutman.
You can then submit the article request
or book request form.
Are there limits on requests?
We have no set limits, but ask that you plan ahead if you have multiple
requests. If you are going to have a large number of requests,
e-mail the Document Delivery office to make arrangements.
How long does it take to fill a
request?
Requests are filled within five working days. Rush requests are filled
subject to staffing.
How do I renew books checked out through
the service?
Renew books using the Your Account feature in the HOLLIS
Catalog. You will need your Harvard ID and PIN.
Where can I return books obtained
through the service?
You may return books, except those loaned by Countway, at any participating
library. If the item is returned on time to a participating library, it
will be considered returned on time by the owning library. Patrons continue
to be responsible for accrued overdue fines. Countway books must be
returned to the Gutman Circulation Desk.
