Angela DeProspo

Ed.M. TEP (TAC) '04

High School English

Facts:

DeProspoAngela hails from Green Bay, Wisconsin, and though she swears she has never worn a cheesehead, she does enjoy a good football game. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, she moved to Boston and worked for five years at the Legal Advocacy & Resource Center ("LARC"), a nonprofit organization providing free legal services to low-income Massachusetts residents. Asked why she wants to teach, Angela replies, "Getting up at 5 AM and eating lunch at 10:30 reminds me of the farmers' schedules in my native Wisconsin…but seriously, I cannot fathom a career that is more exciting or challenging than teaching high school. Teenagers are amazingly brilliant and are usually willing to take intellectual risks and articulate their perceptions. I look forward to learning as much, if not more, from my students as I hope they will learn from me."

Inside Scoop:

"TEP faculty, staff and alumni are incredibly supportive, approachable and responsive, both during the admissions process and throughout your time at HGSE."

"Teaching is HARD WORK!!! There are millions of dynamics going on in a classroom at any given time. It is crucial to be prepared yet flexible and reflective. You must know your students and constantly monitor their reactions to the material and your teaching."

"The Cambridge-Harvard Summer Academy is a completely unique experience. Never again, I imagine, will I be in a classroom with four other adults. The summer component was incredibly intense, but it was a great chance to jump right into teaching. You receive instant feedback and support from your mentor teacher and fellow student teachers, and it's a great chance to try things out and begin to find yourself as a teacher."
