CarvillRisk & Prevention, Ed.M. 1996Kristin Carvill is currently employed with the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DJJDP) as the Community Development Specialist for the Department's Support Our Students Program. The Support Our Students Program (SOS) is a community based after-school initiative that provides approximately eight million dollars in grant funding to 501c3 organizations for after-school programs targeting school-age youth. DJJDP funds a program in each of North Carolina's 100 counties. Kristin is responsible for the development of the SOS program model as well as for contract management for the 100 grant awards. Prior to joining DJJDP in October 2004, Kristin was employed with Eckerd Youth Alternatives, Inc. (EYA), a non-profit youth organization based in Clearwater, Florida. Kristin joined EYA in 1996 after graduating from the R&P program. While with EYA, Kristin served as program coordinator and subsequently program director within EYA's Early Intervention and Prevention Division. In that capacity, Kristin was responsible for the overall administration of six school-based violence prevention programs targeting 4th and 5th grade youth in public elementary schools. Kristin accredits the Risk and Prevention Program, as well as the guidance she received from Dr. Nakkula, as instrumental in her growth as a leader in the field of youth development and related programming initiatives.
