Julie Mendoza

Educational
equity in public schools and access to higher education have been central concerns
through Julie Mendoza's career. After graduating from HGSE, she assumed
a research post as the Co-Director of the California Opportunity Indicators
Project for the University of California All Campus Consortium on Research
for Diversity (UC ACCORD) and concurrently held a postdoctoral position at
the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Science at UCLA. She
presently serves as an Education Advisor for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
and is Chair of his Healthy Kid's Subcommittee. Julie's dissertation, Mathematics
Course-Taking and the SAT Score Gap: A Case Study of 151 Los Angeles County
Public High Schools (17KB pdf), was supervised by Professors Gary Orfield,
committee chair, Richard Murnane and John Willett.
