Terrence Tivnan teaches courses on research methods and data analysis. He received his M.A.T. in reading from HGSE and was a first-grade teacher for several years before returning to graduate study. His current interests are in quantitative research and data analysis as well as in developmental and educational psychology. He has been a teacher and consultant at Children's Hospital Boston, the Education Development Center in Newton, and several research and consulting firms in the Boston area, focusing on projects involving educational evaluation, employment discrimination, child abuse, and the use of computers. His work in educational psychology examines how new skills are acquired by elementary schoolchildren. He is currently working on a longitudinal study of early literacy models in the Boston Public Schools, following over 800 children in 16 elementary schools.
