Helen Elizabeth Haste

Profile

Helen Haste is a visiting professor at HGSE. She is a British psychologist with research interests in the development of moral, social, and political values and citizenship; the role of metaphor in cognition, dialogue, and culture; and the relationship between science and society, particularly media and cultural images of science. Gender is also a theme in all these areas of work. Haste has been on the faculty of the University of Bath, England, for most of her career. She holds degrees from the universities of London, Sussex, and Bath. In 2002, she served as president of the International Society of Political Psychology. She was given that society's Nevitt Sanford Award for contributions to political psychology in 2005. She is currently vice president of the British Association for the Advancement of Science and was its chair from 2002-2004. She was elected a member of the Academy for Social Sciences (in the UK) in 2006. Her recent writings include works on citizenship, competence in the 21st century, science and society, and feminist theory.
