William (Bill) Wisser is the senior director of the Teaching and Learning Lab (TLL) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education where he oversees a team of professionals dedicated to supporting faculty and HGSE programs in the design, development, and delivery of innovative and effective learning experiences, regardless of their modes of delivery. He is also a lecturer on education and regularly teaches the T127 Practicum course that provides students with real-world opportunities to implement and evaluate learning designs. Before coming to Harvard, Wisser was the associate director for faculty development at Simmons College where he led the Sloan Foundation-funded Blended Learning Initiative. Wisser earned a Ph.D. in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a dissertation that focused on the rise of a political print culture in early 19th-century Brazil. He also holds a M.A. from the University of New Hampshire and a B.A. from the College of New Jersey. He has held teaching positions at Elon University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has taught courses in modern Latin American History, World History, and Genocide in the Developing World. His research interests include alternative credentials, reusable digital learning objects, and electronic portfolios.
