Noah Heller is lecturer on education and a master teacher in residence in mathematics for the Harvard Teacher Fellows (HTF) Program. He joins HTF from Math For America where he mentored new math teachers and directed the development and expansion of a professional development program for more than 700 K-12 "master teachers" of math and science in New York City. Heller earned his Ph.D. in urban education with a focus on science, math, and technology from the Graduate Center, CUNY. His research focused on ninth-grade students' identification with mathematics in regard to how they see themselves as math persons. Heller's university teaching experience includes secondary math methods at Hunter College and calculus at Pratt Institute. He spent nine years teaching math as a founding teacher of the New York Harbor School, an innovative public high school where he also worked closely with teachers, families, and college admissions offices directing the college access process for first generation college-going students. Heller was drawn to the HTF Program because he sees it as a critical initiative to attract, prepare, and sustain talented Harvard graduates, who, with the right set of teaching and learning tools, will change the education landscape by ensuring that all our students have access to the highest quality education and resources.
