A classroom teacher for over 25 years, Katherine Boles writes and teaches about school reform, teacher education, and new forms of teacher leadership. Her work advocates for public-policy changes to restructure the field of teaching, instituting career ladders that offer opportunities for real promotions, pay raises based on achievement and performance, and a consequent strengthening of public awareness that teaching is a profession worthy of status. While a classroom teacher, Boles cofounded the Learning/Teaching Collaborative, a professional development school that links the public schools of Boston and Brookline with Wheelock College and Simmons College in Boston. With teaching colleague Vivian Troen, Boles wrote Whos Teaching Your Children: Why the Teaching Crisis Is Worse Than You Think and What Can Be Done About It, on restructuring the teaching profession.
