Alumni Council Award2004 Alumni Council Award for Outstanding Contribution to EducationThe Harvard Graduate School of Education Alumni Council is pleased to present the 2004 Alumni Council Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education to Stephen W. Raudenbush, Ed.D.'84. The award will be presented to Dr.Raudenbush on Wednesday, June 9 at 5 p.m. during HGSE's Pre-Commencement Ceremony in the Gutman Conference Center, Appian Way, Cambridge, MA. Incoming Alumni Council Chair, Laura Cooper, Ed.D.'88 will present the award. The text of the award, to be presented at HGSE's Pre-Commencement Ceremony on Wednesday, June 9th, reads: As an educator, researcher, and social activist, Dr. Stephen W. Raudenbush has devoted his life to the realization of equitable and socially just schooling in the United States. As a professor, Dr. Raudenbush has made significant contributions to the fields of analytic methodology, multilevel data analysis, and experimental design. He combines a depth of skill in research ith a deep and abiding commitment to issues of equity. His seminal analyses of core issues in the U.S. Supreme Court affirmative action cases affirmed the centrality of diversity in education and in our society as a whole. Dr. Raudenbush's work illustrates the impact that social expectations and external forces have on learning, and provides valid and reliable measures of hese forces. For these and other profound contributions to the field, it is with great respect that we bestow his award upon Dr. Stephen W. Raudenbush. About the AwardThe HGSE Alumni Council first established the Alumni Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education in 1985 in order to recognize the significance of service to education by many alumni of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Each year, the Alumni Relations Office solicits nominations for the Award from the alumni body. Candidates must be graduates of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and have made a significant contribution to education during their professional careers.
