Alumni & Friends

Alumni Council

The Alumni Council is a group of volunteer representatives of the school who provide a valuable connection between the school and its growing body of alumni/ae.

Council members work to strengthen the relationship between HGSE and its alumni through engagement and outreach, including event development and support, Admissions recruitment, strengthening volunteer opportunities, and broadening alumni networks. Council members serve as both representatives of the larger alumni body and as sources of information for the Office of Development and Alumni Relations.

For more than 25 years, the Harvard Graduate School of Education has highlighted the dedication and achievements of our alumni with the Alumni Council Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education. This year we continue the tradition by asking you to nominate a fellow alum who has demonstrated the power of working at the nexus of practice, policy, and research to improve education. It is important that we receive as many nominations as possible to ensure that we have a highly qualified and diverse pool of candidates to consider. You may find more information about the award and its previous recipients on our website.

The nominees we will consider most closely will have:
• demonstrated significant service in the field of education, above and beyond the basic requirements of their profession;
• shown far-reaching impact in their work; and
• exhibited a consistent track record of continued dedication to education-focused issues.

Consideration will also be given to years of professional experience and overall contribution made to the field of education. Please submit your nomination online or call the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at 617-496-3605 to obtain a paper form before the submission deadline of Friday, December 2, 2011.

The award nomination rules and requirements are as follows:
• The nominator and nominee must both be degree-holding alumni of HGSE for the nomination to be considered.
• Current Harvard University faculty, staff, HGSE Alumni Council members, and past recipients are not eligible to receive the Alumni Award.
• Anonymous and self-nominations will not be considered.
